Backstory: History.
Personality:

"I've been fighting the Sigma Virus for a long time..." - Zero

Zero is the peak of Maverick hunters. He doesn't entertain the remarks of those who have gone mad from the Sigma Virus. He doesn't react much to their quips or taunts. He seems calm and almost too cold. He has been called ruthless by foes and allies alike. In reality, Zero decides on an action and executes it. He doesn't see a point in ruminating on or second-guessing the details. Second-guessing yourself can lead to mistakes, and lives can be lost.

Friends and respected peers can convince him to take alternative paths. X, his best friend who used to be his student, can reach him no matter what. He sees X as the one who can make the world better than it has been. Through X, true peace can be obtained. It is a dream all hunters share, no matter how bad it gets. One day, there will be peace. It makes it easier to deal with all the tragedies in their lives.

When Zero cares, he cares deeply. It is because of his heart that he puts himself in stasis to be examined and used to cure the Sigma Virus at the end of X6. That same heart leaves him haunted by the friends he has had to put down during these bloody Maverick wars. He always remembers their kindness and sense of honor. He robbed the world of protectors even if those protectors were no longer protecting anyone.

There is a darker side to Zero, of which he is only partly aware. Buried deep down and pulled to the surface bit by bit as the virus trickles into his systems, his 'true state' is a brutal killer. Dr Wiley made his Magnus Opus a world-ending monster. In his True state, Zero is serene. He's capable of massacres and slaughter without a second thought. Anything that gets between him and his target is dead. He is entirely obedient to the doctor's will and will fight until he's unable to continue. Yet even here, X can reach him.

He has been struggling with what little he knows about it in private. Outwardly, he suggests that he might need to be put down one day. He is at the stage where he is aware of why he was created. Changes to himself coming without his say-so are something to worry about in private. When there are answers and a goal, it is best to go after them. Reason and logic have been his sword and shield to stay one step ahead of all the terrors, despair, and rage of war. He'll use it again. It has worked for a long time, so why not extend it again?

As his body changes, he will consider whether it might be better for him to be put down. But learning it can be controlled...that's different. They have time. Their goal is nirvana, and while they have every shot at getting to their goal, he will fight for the Convoy. These are people, not robots, sure. But that doesn't matter. His and X's...no, the goal of Maverick Hunters was to fight for a peaceful world where no one was suffering. They might not be able to save the world they're going through, but he can do his best to save the people around him. If he has to be put down...so be it.

Powers/Abilities:

Android body—Reploids are sentient robots capable of thinking and feeling. They are all based off of X and his body. But there exists another robot just as advanced. Zero. He was built as a counterpart to X, meant to match him in every way. Zero is strong and fast, capable of going toe to toe with massive reploids. Charged by solar energy, Zero can and will endure long hours of operation.

He can sleep and dream like humans do to conserve power. I'm okay with nerfing his strength and speed if you'd rather I buy those back instead. His armor is meant to withstand punishing blows. He has shown he can function even when he is in pieces. He is extremely difficult to kill. He has a built in coms program he can use to communicate long distance.

Z-Buster - A charged energy weapon he can convert his hand to and fire. Charging it takes a minute or two, slowing down combat. It's a solid long-range option in a fight.

Z-Dash: Zero can fast-dash forward on the ground or in the air to close the distance.

Generally, Zero can learn techniques from his fellow robots after fighting them and copying their data. Something that I imagine won't be possible here. But he's highly skilled with swords and other weapons. Put a weapon in his hand, and he can use them.
He is a superb fighter by design and excels in tracking and scouting. His training as a hunter lets him operate complex machinery and guide others via audio if need be. Hunters have to be capable of investigation and Zero put in the time.

Maverick Virus (called Sigma Virus after it infects Sigma in mmx1) —There has been much discussion about this, but this virus makes machines mad. His body was designed to endure it and grow in power as virus levels climb. The devs hinted the virus is the uploaded consciousness of Zero's creator. I want it to be mysteriously absent from him, but I won't deny you a possible plot tool later on if you wish to use the Maverick virus at some point.
Inventory: Armor and Z-saber - an energy-based sword that he uses in combat.
Game Plans: I want to explore Zero's mind and dive into the depths of it. His canon point is exactly where it is because his feeling of loss matches the world you've made. It motivates him to dig into the mysteries and come together with people very different from him to figure out how he feels about his creation. His creator. The world he keeps trying to save and how things ended up so messed up despite all their attempts to avoid disaster. The monster changes are like the virus within him, something he didn't ask for. I think, in a way, this could help him come to grips with being patient zero for a virus that has taken so many friends and innocent reploids.
Monster Choice: 1. Youkai - Kitsune
Kitsune feels like a long-term bomb I'm setting up for a period of reflection. New-generation reploids can copy and mimic other forms, and Kitsune felt like the best callback for that.
2. Infernal - Demon,
Zero was made to end Dr. Light's creations and even the world itself. He was so evil that, by the word of God, when he was infected, he became good.
3. Elemental - Genasi
Zero and X have many attacks and abilities that are elemental in nature. Exploring him embodying those things could be fascinating.
Vehicle Choice: All purpose Humvee, tough. Small charging set up inside so he can sleep in the seat.
Sample: W/Akechi.
